It looked like it was going to be a rain free morning - and it was, right up until I tacked up the horse.
Even in spite of the rain we had a pretty good session today though, and I was feeling so proud I thought I'd post some photos.
Today's goal was for Aurora to achieve relaxation - at the walk and trot... and for me to remember to stay straight and centered, by the end we were getting the relaxation, even if I was failing a little on my part of the goal.
She's looking a lot happier with me in these photos than the last

Trotting - I was so proud of her for relaxing enough to do this... she's been really tense the last few rides so this was a major accomplishment for us, even if it wasn't necessarily the best trot

I think you two look wonderful together! I LOVE your hand carraige, I am so proud of you with that!
My Coach is always nagging my arse for my lack of hand carraige and always ends up putting them back to where they should be. JEALOUS of ya girly! Bravo!
The barn I board at, everyone rides around with their hands near their horses bloomin withers for pete's sake - so it is very nice to see how they are supposed to be! |

Your position at the trot is better than at the walk. Probably because you are more focused.
Aurora looks much more supple than the last photos you posted. Good job, she'll come around in no time. |

Aww ! It's always been one of my worst habits - but Aurora makes it pretty easy to remember, as soon as I drop my hand her head comes up and she's really tense again... which reminds me to pick up my hands

Thanks, I'm really proud of her - she's a really quick learner and seems to remember things very well. She's a lot of fun to ride, really works hard to please.
Could be I was more focused at the trot, or it could be that I was relaxing more myself by the time I asked her to trot, which allowed me to focus more on my position than simply keeping the horse going where I wanted her to.
When she's tense she tends to over-react to every little move I make, and sort of ends up 'bouncing' me out of position since I have very little core strength right now to help keep me in the right one. It's a work in progress, but I'm really happy with what we've achieved in just a few short rides... if only we could get a break in the weather - it'd be great to not have to work in puddles. |

Totally! I actually had that thought when I first got on... that "Oh, wait, did I remember to use the bathroom before I came?"
I was more impressed that I didn't just topple off the horse the first time she skittered on me... guess that super glue really WAS a great idea |
